Everyone on the place can point at the bad patch from the gate. Nobody can say when someone last went out there meaning to look, or what they found.

The terraces exist, the road was moved after a big rain, one area kept its cover. None of it was ever written as a decision, so nobody can say what was due this year.

The number was paid for and it is sitting in an inbox with every other field attached to it. Copying it out takes twenty minutes and it is not interpretation.

Every field is getting something. The column nobody has filled in is the one naming which document it came from, and when.

The farm tests soil every year and still cannot name the fields it missed. What is missing is not another analysis, it is one line per field with a date on it.

Stacking the reports is the part that fails. What makes the years comparable is the column that records what changed between them.

A standard that arrives ready-made from the factory, and gets read as a number when it was written as a condition.
